Our Source: A Century of Heritage in the Shadow of Mt. Fuji
At SATORI, we believe that exceptional matcha is born from a perfect harmony of nature, history, and human dedication. That is why we source our matcha directly from a historic, fifth-generation family farm nestled in the foothills of Shizuoka, Japan.
With over 100 years of family expertise and centuries of regional tradition, every bowl of our matcha tells the story of its remarkable origin.
1. The Terroir: Shaped by Fire, Water, and Mist

Our tea fields sit in Shizuoka—Japan’s premier green tea capital—right under the watchful eye of Mount Fuji. This dramatic landscape isn't just beautiful; it creates an extraordinary, irreplaceable terroir that directly shapes the clean, smooth, and vibrant flavor of your matcha.
-
Volcanic Soil: Centuries of activity from Mount Fuji have blessed the surrounding foothills with mineral-rich, well-draining volcanic soil. This unique ground gives the tea plants deep nourishment, contributing to a wonderfully balanced flavor profile with rich depth and smoothness.
-
Pure Snowmelt Water: The roots of our tea bushes are hydrated by pure mountain water, fed directly by the rainfall and snowmelt from the peaks of Mount Fuji.
-
The Perfect Climate: Positioned perfectly between the cooling mountain air and the warm coastal breezes of Suruga Bay, our fields experience a natural mix of mild temperatures and rolling mists. This gentle environment allows the leaves to grow steadily, locking in the ideal balance of natural sweetness, rich umami, and fresh green aroma.
2. Over 100 Years of Family Craftsmanship
Great matcha cannot be automated; it is a highly skilled craft passed down from artisan to artisan.

Our partner farm is run by a fifth-generation family that has been tending to these exact lands for over a century. Every single step of the process—from the precise timing of shading the leaves to block out the sun, to the meticulous harvesting, steaming, and final stone-milling—is guided by over 100 years of accumulated family wisdom.
3. Grown in the Cradle of Samurai History
When you drink our matcha, you are participating in a lineage of tea appreciation that spans nearly 800 years.
Shizuoka’s deep tea roots date back to the 13th century, when the monk Shoichi Kokushi first brought sacred tea seeds back from China. Centuries later, the region's exceptional tea caught the attention of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the legendary shogun who unified Japan. He loved Shizuoka tea so much that it was designated as the official tea supplied directly to the Tokugawa shogunate.
By bringing this matcha to your cup, we are proud to connect you directly to Japan’s historic heartland—where volcanic earth, pure mountain waters, and generations of mastery come together to create the ultimate tea ritual.
